A LITTLE HISTORY
Rooted in Family. Grown for Flavor.
Matthews Ridgeview Farms represents over a century of sweet potato farming heritage. The Matthews family has been growing sweet potatoes for more than 100 years. Terris Matthews, a fourth-generation farmer, began his career with Matthews Brothers, where he gained valuable experience in both farming and marketing. To meet the growing demand, Matthews Brothers expanded its acreage, securing relationships with local vendors and major distribution centers.
In 2006, Terris and his wife, Kim, founded Matthews Ridgeview Farms, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the family’s legacy and ushering in the fifth generation of sweet potato farming. Terris launched the new operation with his land and additional leased acreage, laying the foundation for what has become a thriving and respected enterprise.
Today, Matthews Ridgeview Farms manages approximately 9,500 acres of farmland. While we also grow corn and soybeans, sweet potatoes remain the cornerstone of our business. We currently raise 3,000 acres of sweet potatoes—including Beauregard, Orleans, Covington, and Murasaki varieties—with an additional 2,000 acres sourced from trusted partner farms. Known for their consistent quality, sweetness, and excellent texture, our sweet potatoes are a testament to the care and commitment we bring to every step of production.
In addition to farming, we operate our own state-of-the-art storage and packing facilities. Our warehouses are capable of storing an entire sweet potato crop in climate-controlled environments, ensuring product freshness year-round. Once an order is received, sweet potatoes are promptly transferred from storage to our adjacent packing line. This proximity allows us to fulfill orders quickly and efficiently, minimizing spoilage and reducing waste.
At Matthews Ridgeview Farms, we take pride in combining generations of agricultural knowledge with modern practices to deliver premium-quality sweet potatoes to our customers daily across the country.
Matthews Ridgeview Farms is proud to be certified in all three areas of our operation—field, packing shed, and storage—under both GLOBALG.A.P. and USDA Organic standards.
The GLOBALG.A.P. certification assures consumers that our farming practices are environmentally responsible, limit the use of chemical inputs, and prioritize worker health and safety, as well as animal welfare.
Our USDA Organic certification confirms that our sweet potatoes are grown and processed in compliance with stringent federal guidelines. These include standards for soil health, pest and weed management, livestock practices, and the limited use of approved additives.
In addition, Matthews Ridgeview Farms is SMETA certified (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit), a globally recognized audit protocol developed by the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex). This certification reflects our dedication to ethical sourcing, sustainable operations, and social responsibility. It reinforces our commitment to transparency and integrity throughout our supply chain—values that are increasingly important to our partners and customers.
